Scrappy Wreath

With the 3/4in an 1in red and green square scraps I have been fiddling with some scrappy wreaths. This is the 3/4in one finished, it is tiny, 1 3/4in circle. To make, take each square and fold in half then in half again, using strong cotton, thread sharp needle and thread each folded square onto the cotton, when you have 4in threaded tie cotton so the squares form a circle. Add ribbon for hanger and bow for decoration.
Still working on the 1in square one.

Half Inch Bag

With all the 1/2in strips I have sewn them all together with a straight stitch running all the way down the length, making sure I over lap the strips by at least 1/2inch. The stitch down the middle gives more stability to the strip. I'm using white thread but you could use all your odds and ends for it. I did think about using 3/4in strips but thought I would have to do a zig zag or 2 straight rows for it to sit right.
Here I'm doing the side gusset which I have cast on 15 stitches with 4mm needles, it comes out to just under 4in wide.  Will post when I get to the main part of the bag.
23/10 update Have just pulled it out and started with bigger needles, was too thick and heavy for a bag using 5 1/2mm needles now with 12 stitches for the side.

Holiday Post Again

It seems I only get to post on the holidays these days, hopefully this term I will have a bit more time to myself. Spent the first week of the holidays in Perth for Country week soccer, second place this year, well done to Geraldton who played so well for the tournament.
Adele has trials this weekend for the NTC again, all players have to retrial, I have said we wont travel much for the last term as we will move to Perth for next year and Adele can attend all the training and games.
Have spent my second week of the holidays trying to tackle this mess. 3 large tubs and a couple of small tubs of scraps, FQ's and strips.
Have cut them into the biggest strip or square I could. From 1/2 in upwards. Have separate blog posts for what I do with the strips.

PJ day

It was nice to stay in my PJ's all day and not have to go any where. Just sit around watch movies, craft and play games on the computer. Have been busy all year going to Perth every week end, its been hard to find time to myself.
The main project I have worked on this year was some recycled items for prizes, for a quiz night my school is having in August.

1 bag made from plastic shopping bags 8 dishcloths knitted from teabag strings 8 scourers made from plastic shopping bags.
With taking Adele to Perth every weekend to train and play soccer, 5 hours one way, some times just for the day but mostly we will stay the weekend, I needed a hand project, so I started 3 as you do. The first one I had to keep a secret for awhile, because as I cut fabric out for me I cut some out for my mum to make a kit for her birthday. This one I got the pattern from this blog http://susisquilts.blogspot.com/2010/07/aunt-claras-border.html
Have a look at her work it is just stunning, I go back time and time again to drool over her quilts.
She got her idea out of a book, but here is a link to the quilt
http://www.powerhousemuseum.com/collection/database/?irn=259537
Mine has started slowly, have a lot of the fabric cut out and now mum has had her birthday can openly work on it and not be worried she will call in.

The second is a Tumbler quilt have lost the link to the blog I got the idea off, the lady machined sewed hers, she did about 8 of them, I loved the way she offset them. I have only sewed some together as pairs then some in 4's but you should get an idea from this how it will look.

The third is a star quilt, it started as a tumbing block with the light, dark, medium and after sewing then pulling out because I was not happy with it many times, I quite like this design.
I hope to get a lot of cutting out these holidays so when schoolstarts again and the trips to Perth I will have lots of hand sewing.
Photos not to good cant find the cord for my camera so had touse Adeles and hers is not a good one.

Sorting Teabag Strings

My teabag strings seem to be hatching all over the place, every time I turn around, I find another bag or container of them. Trying to sort them out for a few projects I want to do this year. The biggest one is out of all the Dilmah ones I have and will have to collect through the year as it will take between 8 to 10,000 of them. I am going to latchwork a bag frame I brought from Spotlight.
Have started to tie the bag together with the strings, once I have done the 2 base rows I should be able to latchwork them.
I have been sorting out the very thin ones as well, as these dont go very well in the dish cloths I knit. After a few washes with them they tend to break into holes in the dish cloths, so with the thin ones I am joining some of them all together and chaining them into thicker yarn and with the rest I am dying them to do a Crochet project, which I have not decided on yet. With the medium to thick strings I need to make 9 dishcloths, 8 for a quiz night and 1 for a raffle on ravelry. I still have a knitted scarf to make as well.
